How to patch a hole in carpet

Patching a hole or worn spot in Carpet

Remove the entire damaged area by cutting out a square or rectangle with a utility knife.  Make each cut with one pass of the knife, keeping the edges clean and straight.  Cut through the carpet backing, but avoid cutting the padding or floor.

Using the damaged section as a pattern, cut a patch identical in size and design.  Check the patch for fit, and trim if you need too.

Spread a thin layer of carpet adhesive under the patch and the edges of  both the surrounding carpet and the patch.  Press the patch in place, then brush the pile with your fingerprints to hide the seams.  Let dry for several hours before vacuuming.
